The big winner on the biggest night in music at Staples Center was undoubtedly The Dixie Chicks, who found redemption with five Grammy wins. However, the real winner was USC student Robyn Troup, who enjoyed the biggest night of her life. Troup, celebrating her 19th birthday, was annouced the winner of the online talent contest “My Grammy Moment” – granting her a special debut performance alongside pop icon Justin Timberlake. Upon hearing her name called, Troup rose with a look of shock and amazement, then proceeded to live out the fantasy of millions of girls worldwide.
Troup demonstrated she was worthy of being the winner with strong vocals for “Ain’t No Sunshine” and “My Love,” with Grammy-winning rapper T.I. joining the duo on stage for the latter song. The artists in the crowd found great satisfaction in watching Troup keep pace with JT and T.I. during this once-in-a-lifetime performance (http://music.yahoo.com/mygrammymoment).
While this was truly an unforgettable experience for Troup, what about her college experience at USC? On January 19, The Houston Chronicle reported that Troup was taking a leave of absence from USC since her college tuition is too expensive. A letter of recommendation from Justin Timberlake might assist with a full scholarship. Nevertheless, even if Troup drops her academic pursuits as a Trojan for the pursuit of a record deal, she can rest assured that there’s plenty of sunshine ahead.

what i found funny about this story is when i was watching american idol the other day and they cut this girl named Robyn Troup right out of the gates, round 0. does that mean that she was good enough for the grammy’s but not for idol? all credibility for the grammy’s went out the door for me, this whole call voting thing is crap, i dont think the infrastructure is setup to make it an even playing field.
